ELECTIONS

There is one more election in 2008:
 
General Election - November 4, 2008
To vote in an election is your opportunity
to participate in government.
 
 
* The General Election in November allows the voter to choose any person in any of the political parties.
 
Likewise, there could be millage requests and proposals on that ballot, too.
Some other important things to know:
 
1 - Allegan Township has two precincts with 28th Street as the
     dividing line between the two.
     #1 - 28th Street west to the township line which is 36th
            Street.
            Homes on 28th Street will be even numbered.
            Homes on 36th Street will be odd numbered.
     #2 - 28th Street east to the township line which 24th Street.
            Homes on 28th Street will be odd numbered.
            Homes on 24th Street will be even numbered.
     If you do not know for sure which precinct you live in, look at 
     your voter registration card.  If you are still not sure, call the
     township office at 673-5051 and ask.  
2 - All voting by Allegan township residents is done at the
Allegan Township Hall

3 - To be able to vote you must be a registered voter.   
     You can register to vote at any office of the Secretary of State
     or at the township hall.  The preferred method to register is in
     person and there is no fee to register. 
     You will need either a driver's license or a personal Identification
     Card which has a number.
     Also - you must be 18 years of age on or before the election.
 
     To vote at the General Election in November, you must register
     by October 6th.
4 - If you are unable to come in person to vote you can request an
     absentee ballot by:
     - calling the office (673-5051) and asking for an absentee
     voter application to be mailed to you, or picking it up.
     - by downloading the application for an absentee voter
     ballot here, printing it off and filling it out and either mailing it or
     bringing it into the office.
     - by requesting to be put on the permanent absentee voter list
     which means you would automatically receive the application in
     the mail before each election.  If you would like to know more
     about being placed on the permanent list, call the office today.
     Once the absentee voter application has been received back in
     the office and approved, you will receive your absentee ballot.
